Can anyone identify these Portland stone fossils?
A few weeks ago, I photographed a slab of Portland stone
with an extraordinary texture of fossils - known locally
as 'Portland Screws' and 'Portland Devils'. I believe
this stone came from a commercial quarry, and that it
has architectural uses.
Can anyone tell me what these fossils are please?
The attached (tiny 3 kb) image shows a couple of
details from the larger version.
Thanks ...
