1. Try using a large washing-up bowl filled with fine
sand to place the block of stone in whilst carving.
2. Use a length of rope with a weight on either end
(people in the workshops here use two halves of a
high density building block) - place the rope across
the stone to be carved, and allow the weight to
dangle.
3. Tie a length of rope to one side of the carving
banker - with a loop in the other end for your foot
to go through - place the rope across the stone to
be carved, and press down with your foot.
4. If using a wooden banker - fix two pieces of timmber
in an 'L' shape and push the block into the corner
of the 'L' to hold it steady.
