tips for a newcomer to using pneumatic tools
I apprentice from a stone mason of 35 years and we
work out of an old chicken coop in Iowa. There is a
certain meditative quality to the rhythm of 3 mallet to
chisel. We even sing a tune once in a while as we carve
to the beat of wood mallet and chisel. Also, we make
our own mallets and banker. A local blacksmith makes up
our pitch, point, and claw chisels. He also does a good
job of mallet head chisel for carving.
Pneumatic and caststone are words not welcome to our
group. We strive to use only local stone for our work.
