Janine,

I went to Portland this past June. I had a magnificent time
and plan to go back. Everyone was great -- Hannah, Paul,
Mike and John. I really recommend it. Paul can help you
with booking a place to stay. I stayed at the Mermaid
Inn--it's run by Tony & Dot who are a lot of fun. The
workshop had a good mix of people.

Transportation wise, the easiest thing is to fly into
London...price generally determines whether I fly into
Gatwick or Heathrow--I go with what's cheapest. From either
airport, take the underground (subway) to Victoria or
another large rail station. Then hop on British Rail to
Weymouth. You can buy your ticket at the station--you don't
need to advance purchase. When you arrive in Weymouth,
you'll get a cab to where you're staying in Portland. I
arrived very late into Weymouth by myself--there were plenty
of taxis and they all know Portland well. It's actually very
easy--though it sounds like a lot. If you decide to go, you
can email me individually and I'll give you more info if you
want it. I'd love to go back in September! You'll really
have a good time.
