help wth choosing appropriate stone

I agree with Shane Wilson's response and would have the
same question he did.
If by "lustre" you mean a polish, then sandblasting
isn't appropriate.
If you want sandblasting, and don't want granite, yes,
marble is fine, but sandblasting won't create a shiny
surface.
You could have a dual finish; part polished, then lay a
protective film (like rubber pad) over that when you
sandblast the rest.
Let me know if this makes sense to you or if you need
further assistance. We have a lot of technical info on
hand.
