Black Belgian marble
Hello Andrei,
Working with Belgian Black marble needs a more careful
approach. The rough work is done with a small angle
grinder : first I make parallel cuts always twice as
deep as their distance, to take off the bigger parts.
With a chisel the bits are removed beginning in the
middle so at the sides the chisel is put on the bottom,
as oblique as possible. After the cut-off wheel comes
the grinding wheels and abrasive discs. This part is
always done outside.
Then comes the long hours with the rasp, files,
grinding-blocks, sandpaper and polishing powder. Very
small (and sharp) chisels are also used for the finer
details. As the dust is not toxic nor aggressive to
lungs, no special precautions should be taken.
Hope this will help you out,
Peter Van de Vijver
