Black Belgian marble
HiHo,
I have had the best success with the "slice and dice"
techniques, i.e., using a diamond cutting blade on an
angle grinder (like they use for autobody work). The
blades are not too costly. I cut slices into the stone
in parallel cuts and break off the chunks between each
slice with a chisel.
Masonry cups can then grind further for smoothing and
shaping. I avoid all impact aimed into the stone. These
are techniques i learned at various Marble marble
symposia in Marble Colorado, where the elegant white
Yule Marble is fragile to bruising and can sometimes be
brittle like the Belgian,
Happy dust-making.. Ron Masa
