Subject: UK limestone suppliers?

Hi Tracy:

I'm a carver in Los Angeles, about to leave to visit your neck of the woods.

You can find many varieties of limestone, and knowledgeable stone sellers at
Art City in Ventura, California. "Russell" works in the office and takes the
orders, however Paul Lindhardt, the owner of Art City, is also available to
answer questions. I never met a man who knew more about stone ... you can
reach Art City by phone, (805) 648-1690. Paul will be in Washington (Lake
McMurray - see below) for the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association Camp
Brotherhood Symposium from July 14th through the 23rd. If you visit he may
have some limestone with him, since he sells stone at this event. In any
event, he will be there to answer any and all questions you may have. There is
no cost to visit the symposium site.

Another source for you, in your part of the "woods" is Randy Zieber of
Neolithic Stone Company. Randy is based in Vancouver, BC. He can be reached
at (604) 325-5399 or at http://www.neolithicstone.com/ , which is a great website.
Randy boasts about 9 different kinds (and colors) of limestone. He is very
knowledgeable about stone and can answer just about any question you may have.
However, unlike Paul, he is not a carver and has limited experience actually
carving the stone. He has a warehouse at 1000 Parker Street, Vancouver BC
where you can see literally hundreds of different kinds of marble, granite,
rare stones, etc. This man knows how to obtain some of the best and most
unusual stones I've ever seen.

When speaking to either of the above please feel free to mention that Stacy
Shure of
"Art City" referred you. (I maintain a studio at Art City hence I'm considered
one of their resident artists). I do NOT get a commission, kick back, or
anything of that sort. They are just good friends and suppliers who would be
interested in knowing how you heard of them.

If you are interested, the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association (phone:
425-398-1398, website "http://www.nwssa.org/ is having an
international stone carvers symposium July 14th through the 23rd at a place
called "Camp Brotherhood" which is just adjacent to Lake McMurray, close to
Arlington and Mt. Vernon in the Skagit Valley. There will be hundreds of
carvers from all over the globe. There are also tools sales (Pronto Tools of
Ventura, California - Alex knows her tools!), rock sales (the two mentioned
above and Gary McWilliams of Stone Arts of Alaska with some very hard stone!),
and classes, lectures, and of course, carvers. We are on a large field and
visitors are welcome any day. You might want to call the NWSSA office, number
above, to get directions and information. We would love to have you stop by.

Hope this information helps, and if you do decide to visit us at Camp
Brotherhood - please ask for me and introduce yourself! Paul and Randy (the
stone suppliers) certainly will know where I am carving so I won't be hard to
find!

Good luck.

Stacy Shure
