Hi Eric, I'm just south of you in washington state, am familiiar with some
of the stones you mention, and recommend you get a little book called
Glossary of Geologic Terms, by Ron Geitgey. It is sold by the Northwest
Stone Sculptors Association, PO Box 851, Woodinville, WA 98072-0851, USA,
and they have a website: [URL now obsolete]
the author is a geologist and carver.
good luck, Tracy Powell, http://www.powellstudios.com/
