It's been interesting listening to you carvers talk...i even
chimed in myself once - to direct attention to noguchi's stone
assemblages but i want stone masons - and others involved in
structural/sculptural art forms to know about the STONE WORK
SYMPOSIUM scheduled to take place this november in santa fe nm
... objectives: professional camaraderie, knowledgeable
discourse and the launching of a nation-wide organization with
international associations - THE STONE FOUNDATION - a modern
version of the medieval craft guild which will serve to connect
and inform its members.
for information visit http://www.stonefoundation.org/
STONE SCULPTORS, you are welcome too, and PLEASE pass the word
to your stone mason friends and others who might be interested
- in particular those who are not internet savvy. Thanks.
in lithik fellowship,
Tomas
p.s.
I had the privilege recently to visit noguchi's workshop on the
island of shikoku in japan (and the good fortune to meet him
some years ago at his garden museum in long island city...at 85
he still twinkled with creative energy)
his grave site there is most appropriate for a sculptor of
stone... a large granite boulder was split open, hollowed out to
receive his ashes and reassembled...there he resides, within the
stone)
