Learning with talc or Pyrophyllite
Hiho Corey,
If fate wants you to carve talc, it will be given unto you. And so it has.
The First tool is a face mask that keeps the lighter than air particles from
being inhaled. (Where they attempt to reconstitute small boulders inside
your lungs.) Scratch or carve a stone a little, then step back and watch
the particles rising and floating in the air.
Other than that precaution, I think it's a fine stone to start with. Try
simple tools, including whatever you have on hand. Old knives, woodworking
tools, an electric hand drill with rotary rasps or grinders, even a hand saw
can work. Start simple, get to know the stone, and overspend on cool tools
later. Wear that mask. Enjoy.
electRONicALLY yours, Ron Masa
