Scott,

   I have a technique I use to fit odd shaped sculpture pieces to the base
either flat or odd shaped. It is this, I use charcoal to mark and match the
two pieces them chip in reverse on each. Taking away from one matches the
high points on the other, sort of puzzle like. Also, sometimes if the base it
flat I simply use a flat piece marked with charcoal and rub it on the odd
shaped piece. Then chip away the high places. By doing this it is possible to
get a perfect fit. I believe the Incas did something very like this or at
least it would have worked if they had.  Billy
