asbestos in Virginia Soapstone
While it has generally been well known that Virginia soapstone does
contain quite a bit of asbestos, I learned that the general rule is that
ALL soapstone should be treated as if it has asbestos (including Texas
pink & purple, where the content is quite low). With this in mind, a
very good respirator is recommended, not merely a dusk mask, to minimize
any potential dangers to the lungs.
Best of luck with the stone. It's quite fickle and I've seen some that
is as hard as granite ... but what a polish!

Some soapstone is okay. I question Virginia stone.
