Finishing Alabaster
HIHO list,
I use very much the process George capably describes below, only with
"Stone Glamor" floor tile sealer. Tough stuff which i like much better than
the ever popular "Akemi" and at about a fifth the cost.
Sometimes i add a wax layer after a few layers of the stone sealer.
Occasional buffing with a rotary buffing wheel in a hand drill can yield a
continuous, gloss surface which really highlights both the colors and grain
of the stone. I often include rough or broken or scraped regions with no
sealer at all for maximum contrast. Some folks can't believe the different
surfaces are really the same stone and assume they are inlays. Have fun,
there are no rules.
Be Well,
Doctor Ron
