Robert's oil vessels
Patricia,
Alabaster does indeed go opaque when heat is applied to it.
I have for many years been bringing alabaster to the boil in water.(left in
boiling water for no more than 10 minutes)
As yet I have had no problems.
I have also tried wrapping it in Tin foil and leaving it in the oven for 30
minutes gas mark 5.
I am aware that more knowledgable stone users would have views about this.
All I can say is that the alabaster develops a beautiful cloudy tone, that
polishes well afterwards following either of the above methods.
The joy of using stone must also involve a healthy degree of
experimentation, otherwise the fun vanishes.
