Bear in mind that rebar will rust, even if it's coated (it may take 30 or
40 years, but it will rust)- when that happens, it expands and presses on
the stone, and can eventually cause splitting. Look at any old concrete
bridge or underpass and you'll see spalling and cracking from rusted rebar.
