drilling alabaster
If you are still set on drilling the alabaster and the drill then cut
doesn't work look into getting a deep hole drill bit made from a softer
steel such as that used in woodworking. The design of the deep hole drill
would eliminate the chip problem as it has a hole through it to feed a
liquid through and the liquid centers the drill in the hole, cools the tool,
and flushes the chips up a grove in the side. A set up for deep hole
drilling might be a little pricey but it would work on your lathe w/o
breaking a good piece of alabaster.
