flamed finish
Oxy-Acetylene followed only inches behind by water spray to achieve
maximum thermal shock. The objective is to heat the surface, not the
bulk. With a biotite-containing granite one often sees some fusing of
the edged of the biotite (mica) flakes due to the heat. Take
precautions against hot chips igniting adjacent combustable materials.
