Question on drilling alabaster
well, Patricia, that was quite a discussion you sparked with your drilling
problem. this is not my experiential province but I suggest a different
approach and that is to drill the holes before you cut the pen blanks. that
is to say saw the alabaster to the desired 2 inch thickness and mark the
centers for the holes at 1 and 1/2 inch centers (plus the width of the saw
cut) if you want 3/4 inch blanks. then drill the holes with whatever drill
bit you find works best (you might try using water) and then saw the block (I
suggest a tile saw) along the grid of lines between the holes and, joila, your
pen blanks. cracking should not be a problem with this method. please do let
us all know what works.
