Question on drilling alabaster
You could try making a smaller hole and then boring it out to final size.
Also work from both ends towards the middle rather than straight through
this will avoid putting undue stress on the far end. Alabaster shatters
internally rather easily so going very slowly and keeping vibration to a
minimum is essential if it is to work. I have cut quite a few holes in
alabaster and would not choose to do deep drilling in that particular stone.
What ever you do, wood tools are the ones to use here on that particular
stone.
Have you considered using onyx or something a bit harder? It would be
easier to maintain the integrity of the stone.

Any advice on how to successfully drill holes through alabaster would be
greatly appreciated!
