Subject: introducing myself

HI Denise,

Nice to have you and your cat with us. I appreciate your comments on
stilling the mind, and I, too feel an invitation to move intuitively through
the stone. I almost never use maquettes, either. A fan of Brancusi, I try
to follow his outrageous insight: "The hand thinks..." which i liked cuz
it was so far out... Then he went on to say... "And it follows the thoughts
of the material,". Whoa, think about that... So i been doing kind of that
approach, mostly, for over a decade. I rarely know quite what a piece will
turn out to be.

I would suggest you might like working in various densities of alabaster
which (I'm assuming is softer) is not so slow to work and invites a gentler
touch and flowing rhythms. There are 30+ women sculptors in a group i
belong to here in Colorado (& about same number of men). Most all are fans
of albaster... tho here many women as well as men do don the "deep sea
outfit" proper to serious grinding. The popular attitude with the beautiful
white Yule marble quarried in the state... which is bruisably delicate in
its crystalline structure, is little pounding, all lo impact "slice and
dice" methods. Cutting with diamond blades. But soft stones are a treasure
of their own. Happy sculpting.

Be Well,

Quoted text begins.Having observed this wonderfully rich site for a couple
of months, I would like to introduce myself. (If my cat
will get off the keyboard for long enough for me to type
it!!)
