Hello

Would you be really bored to model in clay?

I went to classes which started with this, then making a plaster cast of
the clay, then making the final object in a harder plaster. Knocking off
the mould to find the object was for me a good way of getting used to
the idea that there was an object of certain dimensions inside what I was
working on. Plaster is also good because if you knock off too much, while
you are finding out about how to hit, you can paint more plaster on
and carve again.

Also, carving a plaster block or a very soft stone is quite fast and easy,
and you don't have such problems with grain direction which you have in
wood.
If you work soft stone you should wear a mask as the dust can cause cancers.

I'm writing from Romania, Europe. I work in a bank, and I'm trying to
alleviate the stress of daily work with a nice hobby. I always liked
sculptures, and I would be keen to pursue something like this. I tried to
see whether there are some courses or something to learn about sculpture/
how to do/ what to do, but I couldn't find anything. Can someone recommend
me some point/ course of action to start? In case you would consider that
stone is rather hard to modelate for a very amateur, would you please
recommend something in the wood sculpturing as well?
