Introducing myself
Hi, LearningStone List,
Following the suggestion contained in your great welcome/FAQ file, a short
comment on my interest in joining you.
I won't be able to contribute very much actively, as I have worked with
stone - mostly local slate - only very little, in the reconstruction
("remodelling") of ancient mountain houses in Spain. A photo
("La_Besa.jpg") has been uploaded to your website.
My reason for joining you is listening to your conversations. I am
researching what seem to be palaeolithic stone sculptures of a hitherto
unknown and strange type, that's why I want to learn anything about people
who have work in mind when they approach stone. I am interested in many
aspects, like attitudes or preferences for certain materials for certain
uses and, of course, particularly in anything related to sculpturing, like
formal and technical aspects, etc.
As I guess that there will be a lot of people on the list who also have a
historical interest in the working of stone, and maybe particularly in the
origins of sculpturing, I would be most glad to be contacted also on an
a bit are stone objects in the twilight zone between natural sculptures and
artwork. A photo ("balance.jpg") has been uploaded to your website.
My credo:
Stone could actually be called humanity's oldest friend. Not only have we
shaped this substance for millions of years, it has also shaped humanity
into its present form. Yet many fellow humans are out of touch with this
deeply satisfying material. One of my aims is therefore to bring the
benefits of relating to the material "stone" back into the consciousness of
those who are surrounded by plastic and metal. Contact with stone gets us
in touch with our roots.
Cheerio!
Christian
