vermont schist?
I checked the Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Rocks and
Menerals. shist type rocks can be as soft as talc and as hard as quartz
depending on the other menerals that are in it. the best I can tell you is
to experiment. The book said noting about toxicity. maby you shoud contact
your local office of the uninted states geological service. they can tell
you more about your local shcist
