Hi Kevin

My name is Andrea Carasali. This is the first time I've chimed in here, but I've been following the list now for about 2 years. I too have a latent talent for sculpture I want to begin expressing in stone :=). This list has been both invaluable for information and inspiration by feeling connected with those who share the same passion. Thanks to all for sharing. I recently picked up a copy of Milt Liebson's book Direct Stone Sculpture for $39.95 US dollars. There's a 2001 edition in hardback. See weblink to Borders book store below:

Someone recently referenced this book in the discussion of the use of oxalic acid on marble. This is a great book visually I think for the beginner for both tools and materials required and processes. In a nutshell . . . How and where to Start . . . and Finish. So everything I've been reading here all came together. Mystery solved. Now I'm in the process of pricing those things I'll need to start like what size and type of stone, type and quality tools, respirator, a sufficient work surface, etc..

On that note, I have a question for the list. In Liebson's book, one of the work surfaces he recommends is a butcher's block. Well as luck may have it, I just happen to have a solid maple butcher's block sitting in my garage. However, I need (want) a metal frame base with casters to attach to bottom of block. I've been looking at some restaurant supply websites for carts with casters, but I haven't found anything as of yet that will work. Does anyone have any recommendations where I can look, or is this something I might have to get custom made?

Thanks Andrea
