Homegrown Foundry
Sorry if this is a bit off topic but, I am very interested in making my own
foundry as well. Small bronze and aluminum castings only. So far I have
managed to cut the top 1/4 off of a stainless steel beer keg and filled the
lid with refractory cement leaving a 3"dia hole at the top to allow for
escaping gasses etc. Next step is to line the inside walls with the same
refractory cement but I have not done this yet because I'm not sure about
the size or shape for the flame (heat source) opening. This will depend on
the torch and blower system which I have not given too much thought about
beyond using a roofers 'tiger torch' and some type of electric fan/blower.
I'd like to hear more about Bill's home-grown foundry, on line or off line.
Syd.
