alabaster and marble dust statues
Those have been popular on the gift shop market over there for at least 30
years. It's polyresin with powdered marble dust mixed in. They're cast the
way most casting is done; clay model, then rubber mold, and the resin mix
poured in. One of the better companies making them is Santini in Bagni di
Lucca.
