stone inlays
Agreed. The old style of hand selecting each piece and cutting it produces
incredible works. The newer methods of laying out the design and doing
water jet produces a lot of very interesting and beautiful work, and
enables a lot more people to have access to and to see this kind of inlay
work. Each has its place. I've seen some amazing things done with water
jet, and some amazing things done with hand cut inlays- they are different.
(I've also seen lousy work done both ways).
You can also buy a diamond ring saw on a small saw table for $300, they
sell them in stained glass shops for cutting glass, and use them to cut
shapes from marble tiles. It's really a small band saw, has a ring of steel
wire embedded with diamond abrasives.
