Never heard the term "cultural appropriation" before. I'm wondering if I
understand you right. In canada would it be inappropriate to play blues
music or jazz without crediting its source. Or is the issue very specific to
intuit culture? Would it be like making a sphinx without reference to
egyptian history? Or is it like simple plagarism - stealing?
Certainly in the art world an artist is expected to significantly add to any
idea he takes (appropriates) from another artist. Otherwise it is copying
and that is not an honorable claim to art in most places. But what the
discussion has suggested so far is that the whole genre of intuit art is off
limits as art to outsiders.
