I think the difference is that in other fields, individuals always try to
get the professionals to do something for nothing. In the arts, groups,
organizations, and communities expect artists to do something for nothing.
It more reflects a societal belief that what we do isn't real, valued work,
and that since we are passionate about what we do, we don't need to be paid
for our efforts.
