Introducing Myself
David,
You asked:
"I use basic hand tools and sharpen them by hand on a
diamond stone (please can anyone suggest a cheaper type
of sharpening stone)?"
Greenstone blocks (silicon carbide) about 2 in by 6 in
by about 1 in thick, in grits from 60 to several hundred
are available at about $15 apiece. I got mine from
Pronto Tools in California. (you'll have to translate
these numbers into your units, sorry!) These are
indespensible for all sorts of uses. As well as sharping
tools, you can saw off pieces and shape them for special
sanding tasks. However, diamond is so efficient, it is
nice to have it around.
Also you asked:
"...any suggestions on making a home made bench please?"
Discarded or surplus metal office furniture is real
solid. I remove the original top and bolt on some thick
boards. Simple and inexpensive.
By the way is Portland stone a form of limestone?
Best Regards,
Bill
