Dear Sheila,
Just a quick thought on sealers.
Sealers can be a problem. If an outdoor stone is sealed up, it cannot
breath. In other words, your stone is in a constant state of soaking up
water from above and below ground. If you seal it up, you still will get
water coming up from the ground. If that water can't pass out through , and
is trapped inside, it can cause long term staining, slow chemical reactions,
and freezing damage to the surface. Sealing may seem like a good idea , but
there can be some serious long term problems. I've seen this damage, and its
not something that you would see in your lifetime, but it could show up 30
or 40 years from now.
