Subject: Sealers

Hi Gang

The reference to sealers prompted me to ask the
following:

I carve a lot of bird baths from ohio/pennsylvania
sandstone of which some are extremely porous. Nature
will eventually seal it but that takes time and if you
want to clean it out you remove a lot of that natural
process. I have tried spar varnish but it tends to cloud
up when wet and changes and hides the beauty of the
stone.

Beeswax has been mentioned to me and I havent tried that
yet because I'm not sure how you would apply it and I
cannot see why it wouldnt cloud up also (dont see too
many clear beeswax candles)

Please give me answers ---- help!

Just an aside -----

I have just gone over the edge of 60 & have been on the
hunt my whole life looking for something.

For four years now I have carved stone. Very little in
the past has given me the satisfaction, enjoyment, sense
of pride, and relaxation that carving stone has. Also
knowing that I am creating a tangible legacy that has a
very long shelf life makes me feel good too.

I have read here the statement by many "I am not a
professional but...." When you carved your first piece
of stone you became an artist, be aware that someone,
not everyone will appreciate what you created (I say
this from experience) and that someone will not ask
whether or not you are or were a professional. Be proud
of what you have made -- it is for the ages.

peace/love to all
