help with terms
Hello all,
I have found a book here in the library called "Marble
and Marble Working by W. G. Renwick" dated 1909. I
pretty good read but it is about to fall apart.
Anyway, I could use some help with the terms. He says on
page 148 for polishing,: "for marbles that "close,"
readily, putty powder (oxide of Tin,) and rouge is
usually sufficient," ...also emery powder, either used
separately or mixed with lead filings, corundum,
tripoli, and putty powder.
Also he talks about "Cramping and Stopping," on the next
page. I guess lead filing are no longer used but what
about the emery powder and putty powder. Isn't Corundum
a Ruby?
Any help clearing these terms up, would help my reading
along quite a bit.
Sheila
