Hi Kristi,

I think its great that you consider sculpting with hard stones. The notion
of working out of your basement is a great one but needs to be well
researched. You need very specific dust management equipment if you work
with igneous materials and want to keep your health.

Ask your self how you are going to manage weight. Volume specific weight for
granite is around 170 lbs p. cu. ft.

Having lived with an arrangement like that I can only encourage you to
pursue this since this is going to keep your over all overhead low and
access to the work area instant.

Going to Vermont is a good idea. Meet people that work professionally with
this medium and find out first hand what sort of equipment and methods they
use for the respective applications. Do your research before you start
spending big money!

However, dust is what you are going to generate, creating with stone is work
that has a noticeable impact. The question is how much can you or will you
tolerate.

Best of luck to you
Reto in Vancouver B.C.
