Subject: introducing myself

Hey Kristi. I went to RISD and graduated in '94 with my BFA in graphic arts.
I focused on graphics because of my passion for lettering. So, for the last
8 years I have been drawing and hand carving inscriptions in stone. I
trained with a few master carvers in Rhode Island and then became a
journeyman and eventually moved home to Austin,TX. I've been running my own
business here for the last 3 years. I renovated my mom's garage into a
beautiful studio. Because hand carving produces less dust, and the garage
door opens and shuts so nicely, I am comfortable wearing a respirator when
doing granite work (i.e.memorials). Since you haven't yet begun carving the
more dense stones, I would also remind you that you don't have to use
pneumatics. There's a real beauty in working with a mallet and chisel.
