Santa came early this year
Hello Stone People,
I'm writing this message with 2 motives in mind. One, to
express my excitement and two, to request an approval
rating for my new acquisition - a brand new compressor!
I searched through the archives and gathered as much
pertinent criteria concerning compressors and I made my
purchase based on what I came up with and what my budget
would allow.
What I ended up with is a Porter-Cable, 6 horsepower, 25
gallon, oil-free vertical compressor. The SCFM is 8.5 @
40 PSI and 5.5 @ 90 PSI. It also has a 1725 RPM motor.
I'd love to hear any comments or concerns that anyone
might have with my choice. I should also point out what
my intentions for use of this new tool are. Well, I
generally use a pneumatic hammer that works well at
about 30-35 PSI. It's a medium sized air hammer that is
too small for roughing out large amounts, but too large
for doing very fine details like letter carving in small
sizes (less than about 1" cap height). At a high PSI it
can remove a lot of stone but for my purposes this is
not really necessary as I work on small pieces (less
than 300 lbs.).
Thats all for now, I can't wait to get home from work
today and Christen my new toy on its maiden carving
session.
Thanks,
Anthony Marbella
