Black Granite in South Africa
TO Shane Wilson
Back to the Black Granit from South Africa.
I live in Barcelona. I will like to know where do you live ...
Here in Europe is easy to find stones from all over the world in special
stores for stone. I can find in the city small pieces (very expensive).
It is better to go to big dealers and get better qualities and better
prices. There are few factories around Barcelona.
For the last site-specific (open air) sculpture I made in Italy, the
black granit came from Pietrasanta - Masa - Carrara. They receive by
ship big beautiful blocks of stones from everywhere. There are hundreds
of factories cutting stones. There you can choose your block, ask for
some special cuts and ask to send it anywhere.
(... as much as you ask as much as you pay ... but the granit is top
quality !!!!!!!).
There are black granits also from Sweden (Labrador), from Finland, from
Egypt (Aswan), another kind of black from Japan. They are nice stones
also and less expensive than South African granit.
I have no idea about black granit in North America, I believe (for the
Geology of the world) that you might find it somewhere in the North.
