Flamed finish jerusalem limestone.
The flamed finish given to granite is under controlled
conditions in a stone workshop. The process works by
heating the surface with oxy-acetylene flame and then
immediately quenching the surface with water. The
surface explodes off in flakes, so it's called
exfoliation. Exfoliation happens when there is a
differential expansion between crystals that make up the
structure of the stone.
This is usually only carried out on granite 30mm and
thicker. Thinner material and material other than
granite tend to crack all the way through.
Have you thought about some other method to texture your
limestone such as wet sandblasting?
