tool sharpening
Nice explanation of chisel sharpening, George. One
interesting tidbit to add concerns the blueing that you
mentioned. I have been told that the heat that blues the
steel is actually removing the carbon. It then becomes
impossible to regain the original hardness. Anyone that
wants to really dig into sharpening may want to read
"The Complete Guide to Sharpening" by Leonard Lee.
The original question, what wheel runs cooler is still
open, tho. I can remember having my pocket knife
sharpened by a fellow who used paper wheels charged with
abrasive because, he said, paper/cardboard wheels run
cooler. But, I agree with George, hand file and stone is
the safest way to get a fine edge, if you have the
patience.
