Close to the stone (WAS tool suggestions)
Dear Laurie,
I don't think I can let your comments go by without a response because you
make a very misplaced and totally illogical implication.
Weird stereotypical myths develop because of statements like yours.
What actually is this "close to the stone?" for my part it has absolutely
nothing at all to do with the tools or processes that an artist chooses.
It is little like me saying that anybody who doesn't travel hundreds of
kilometres into very remote parts of the country to quarry their own stone
cannot possibly be close to the stone.
or
You wont ever find stone if you start with a rectangular block!
or
The unique qualities of stone are only released when someone uses hand
tools, that's a load of rubbish isn't it? There are just as many people who
use hand tools exclusively and still never get close to accepting the full
range qualities of the stone they have been working with.
I think you should have had a look at what I make before coming out with
that kind of statement, either go to my intro for a link or go to Google and
type Clive Murray-White and search.
Regards Clive
