Subject: gluing limestone

Hi again,

Having learned the hard way, I would never use what I would call the
standard domestic hardware store epoxies to glue stone. The most common
brand in Australia is called Araldite, you may have it where ever you are, I
found that it sort of crystallised after a few years in the open air.

The consulting engineers who worked on my last really large project insisted
that we use a Ramset product called Chemset a polyester based adhesive used
for fixing masonry. Fortunately the joints did not have to be invisible but
it is incredibly effective.

My advice, don't take chances with the basic domestic products there are
enough products that are specially designed for stone for you not to bother
with them.

This may sound over cautious but I would not like to take a chance with a
non-specific product because I would not want to be the one who gets sued
when anything goes wrong, and as we all know it definitely can. Use a
guaranteed product in complete accordance with the manufacturer's
specifications and they get sued if it all goes wrong. Sorry to sound so
pessimistic but it is like that these days isn't it?

To my horror I've heard of monumental masons gluing whole grave assemblies
together with Liquid Nails, Quick Grip or similar.
Regards Clive
