Lathe?
John,
I made a stone lathe from 2 car diffs and some railway line. It is powered
by a single phase 3 HP motor and I have used it to turn balusters, urns,
columns and bowls. I have only turned limestone and sandstone. I use old
jackpick bits with lumps of tungsten carbide brazed into the end to shape
the stone, after cutting it to profile with a bricksaw mounted up on top.
150mm diameter balusters spin best at 120 rpm. I use a wet process to cut
down on the dust.
Regards,
Simon
