Holding Small Pieces
Linda,
There are a couple of things I can add to the other great ideas.
I nail 2x4's to the top of my table to make a barrier to push my carving
against, while carving. Make sure no nail heads are exposed that could
scratch your work.
Truck tie-down rachet straps , which can be bought in various lengths, are
extreamly strong and handy. Just wrap the strap completly around the table
and piece, and tighten it up.
I like to establish how the piece will stand very early in the process. If
your piece will end up having one upright position, then you might as well
cut a flat bottom early on. If your carving small stone sculpture and are
hitting it hard enough to move it around the table, then I'd advise you to
take care that you don't break it.
Good luck
George Graham
