Books about lettering
John,
I really good explanation of how to carve letters is found in "Letters Slate
Cut" by David Kindersley and Lida Lopes Cardozo. My copy is a 1981
publication by Taplinger Publishing Co, Inc. from New York, but if you're in
the UK, I'm sure there's a British edition since the Cardozo/ Kindersley
workshop is in Cambridge. I can't quickly find a website, but I suspect
there is one. And David Kindersley (now deceased) has a grown son who is
also pursing a carving career and has made a name form himself in lettering.
Richard Kindersley's website is at http://www.kindersleystudio.co.uk/
You'll find more information if you research Eric Gill and John Howard
Benson, too.
good luck,
Judy Buswick
