good sources of alabaster?
Susanna,
I have bought alabaster from Colorado Alabaster Supply in Fort Collins for 6
years now and have found Stan to be very reliable and accurate. My orders
ranged from random sizes to blocks sawed to my specs. The stone is fantastic
to sculpt. It is easy to work, strong and very beautiful. I prefer the pink.
I have learned to be patient when waiting for my orders to be filled when
buying directly from the quarry. Usually these companies are very small with
only a couple of people doing the work, so I only call them up and bug them
once a week instead of every other day! When Stan gives me a delivery date
it is pretty accurate. Other quarries have not been so reliable. If you
have been waiting since January, I'd say that you have been extremely
patient.
Have you checked out http://www.blackpearlsoapstone.com ? That is the website
to get virginia steatite. I have delt with them and found their service to be
pretty good. My stone was delivered only a couple of weeks later than the
original plan, which seems to be par for the course. Of course the steatite
is completely different from alabaster, but it is just as strong and
carvable, and in your case , in the same state.
Good luck
george graham
