Hello, world
Hi Daniel,
I also scout my local area for carving rock. I carve
soft stuff like alabaster and marble. Recently I found
some nice marble near a large local limestone deposit.
I'm not a geologist, but I found it great to be able to
find wonderful soft rock in my own neighbourhood. While
searching through the rubble, I developed a good
technique to find softer types of rock, especially in
large mixed piles of crushed material.
You simply look for the most weathered rocks, and you'll
probably strike gold. Limestone itself is nice but is
quite a bit harder than the alabaster and marble I'm
used to working with.
You can see the types of rock I'm using at the site
below. One piece described as being of ' Black marble "
is
I think more of a limestone as it was considerably
harder to work with than other pieces from the same
area.
All the best,
Rod Marquart -
