Identifying Beach Pebbles for Carving?
About beach stone carving:
When in mid-Wales a year ago, my husband and I were taken to a beach near
Aberystwyth that had a beautiful, gentle sound as the slate pebbles from the
surrounding cliffs were tumbled smooth. (We're awaiting publication of our
book on how artists use slate.) An artist we'd met some years before (from
Newport in mid-Wales) got his start carving old slate flooring tiles and
locally collected beach slate. It must have been as smooth and tactile as
those singing rocks near Aber. So, if you can find slate cliffs and pick
up slate, it has been carved and might do for your small projects. I'd be
interested to hear if you do try slate.
Good luck,
Judy Buswick
