Identifying Beach Pebbles for Carving?
I have had great success in asking local stone masons about the stone in my
area. You can be sure that at some point in time the people in your area
tried to use the local stone to build with. Stone masons though they are not
carvers know about what stone is soft and which ones are hard. I thought that
I lived in an area where there was much limestone but none of it good for
carving until I talked to a local stone mason. Turns out that I live very
close to a deposit of very good stone. Hope this helps, good hunting, Jeff
