Subject: Angle Grinder Speeds

Quoted text begins.I've used several diamond cutting discs over time but actually find that the
standard masonry cut off wheels actually do a quicker job.
End of quote.

Interesting. I'll pick a couple up when I venture into town next and give
them a try. I guess I never figured they would stand up to this hard
marble.

Quoted text begins.Of course the fin system works with a small grinder and you don't need to
hang it!
End of quote.

I did 'discover' this fin system when working on some alabaster and it
really works well for getting rid of large areas. Sometimes, too well as
I've had to adjust my idea when I got too enthusiastic. Anyway, I would
love to use this method on the 'free' marble, but the blades I have hardly
cut into the stone. I actually can chip off stone faster by totally by hand
than by using the angle grinder/chisel combo, so I'm searching for what is
'wrong' with the angle grinder or wheels.

Quoted text begins.Mental outlook has quite a bit to with this as I learned when I launched
into a 12 ton block some years ago. <snip>..........develop
a comfortable work rhythm....allow myself to thoroughly enjoy the outcomes
of this methodical, mindless and repetitive activity.
End of quote.

I hear you. Not that I'm tackling a 12 ton block, but I just finished
several large wood sculptures and then tried this marble. The difference in
the hardness was so shocking to me that I got a bit depressed after the
first day. With the wood, I can easily rough out a 3x3x5 foot sculpture in
a week. With this marble, I only made a small dent in it after a day's
work, and that's only because several chunks easily split off the edges.
I've since come to accept that working with this marble will be slow. And
any frilly design will not be possible. It, I think, will end up being a
wonderful lesson in patience and acceptance. (Not that I'm one who wants
things done now and done my way!!! Hahaha!)

Thanks for the help,
Linda
